let's face it. modern social media sucks. Twitter/X platforms billionaire-funded fascist talking heads. facebook keeps churning AI content. instagram is... instagram. and overall, modern social media is designed to keep you anxious and depressed. "if it bleeds, it leads," as the saying goes. fuck that! here i have amassed some cool social media sites that are human-made and designed to encourage new connections with friends!

• SpaceHey - MySpace has long since been dead. or is it? if you're a millennial, you can relive your teenagehood. if you're a Gen Z kid like myself, this can be a stepping stone for expressing a more creative side to yourself through tinkering with html/css, which is something many social media platforms don't let you do nowadays
• Perfectly Imperfect - this platform advertises itself as a combo of MySpace and Letterboxd, calling posts on there, "recs" as in recommendations. pi.fyi does not have html/css customization like SpaceHey, but you can add a background image and custom colors after sharing a specialized link with a friend telling them to join. Perfectly Imperfect is human-curated, and with the unique name for its posts, pi.fyi is designed to remind you of the little things in life. and if you need more convincing, the mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, had a profile created for his campaign
• BitView - YouTube before Google made it became uncool. my one complaint about BitView is that i wish more people knew about it, because it feels empty. but now here's your chance :3
• PikiDiary - people talk big about BlueSky being the perfect alternative to Twitter, and i while do agree in terms of modern conveniences, PikiDiary gives the vibes of the ancient Twitter that had people yapping about what they had for lunch. absolutely nothing like the cesspool Elon Musk made it out to be.
